A shared presentation at Cundall’s Sydney office in August 2009 from Adrian McGregor of the Biocity Studio and Peter Driscoll & Sarah Hatcher from Transition Sydney, a branch of the global Transition Towns movement identified similarities between the two initiatives. Primarily, that they are both tackling the challenges of peak oil and global warming. The Biocity Studio has referenced the Transition Towns initiative in it’s university courses as a positive precedent for providing solutions to cities for the transition to a post peak oil, global warming affected planet. I can see how biocity could be a great resource for transition towns groups to upload the data on their town each year and then track progress through the graphing tool. I am going to have my group check it out and get registered.
Great idea Elle I am going to do the same. Openly displaying our city metrics for all to see means that we can actually compare how our towns are going relative to each other. I want to show the local Council how badly we are doing on our water use compared to others and get them to start dealing seriously with our lack of water. As climate change decreases our rainfall we are in real trouble here unless we start recycling our waste water.
